On Monday 14th November 2016 at the Royal Borough of Kingston Sports Awards ceremony, one of the most prestigious awards in the borough was about to be presented to a very special person.

At an event that celebrated Kingston’s most successful athletes, coaches and sports clubs, it was no surprise to see Jenny Archer MBE of the Weir Archer Academy being awarded with the Eileen Gray Award.

Confident, outspoken and extremely positive are all words that spring to mind when describing T54 wheelchair athlete Jabari Knight.

So when the sprint athlete was awarded the Brain Freeman trophy by the Weir Archer Academy for the dedication and hard work he has tirelessly grafted for over the winter season to improve himself, it was very surprising to see Knight speechless.

“Winning this award is a bit of a new thing to me but achieving something like this really showed that my progress and training has gone well during the winter season,” Knight explains.

Over the course of the year, 2016 has seen many successes both on and off the track for the Weir Archer Academy.

From helping in the local community and raising money at charity events to winning gold medals on the international stage at the IPC European Championships, many of the clubs athletes have excelled and the people of the local communities have also benefitted.

However, it hasn’t all been plain sailing with a year full of glittering successes for the Weir Archer team.
